Volunteer Program

Health Promotion Research actively recruits volunteers who are interested in gaining valuable experience in the area of scientific research as it relates to human health behaviour. This program benefits volunteers as they become exposed to a fast-paced, dynamic work environment, thus, becoming prepared to assume positions with health-related, as well as other corporations. Here at Health Promotion Research, we offer a friendly work environment with a wide array of projects and clients. This diversity, in turn, allows the experience gained to be valuable, thought-provoking, and enjoyable. Most of our volunteers have gone on to complete a graduate level program.

Positions Currently Available

1. Junior Information Sciences Assistant

This volunteer position would be ideal for a library/information science undergraduate who is interested in gaining professional experience in information cataloguing, organization and management for a small information-based company.

DUTIES:

  • setting up a cataloguing system for limited, yet highly varied holdings (monographs, journals, pamphlets, videos, software, manuals, files).

  • provide office support and organization

  • library research

  • assist with writing reports and presentations

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • background in library / information sciences or a related field

  • interest in health care

  • must have a strong academic background (cumulative grade point average of A or higher) and / or a demonstrated creativity in your designated field

  • proven teamwork skills

  • ability to work in a fast-paced, yet casual work atmosphere

  • basic proficiency with computers (and ability to quickly learn new programmes) e.g. Microsoft
    Office (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Project, Publisher, Frontpage), WordPerfect 9.

2. Junior Research Assistant

This volunteer position is ideal for a public health, health psychology or medical sociology student looking to gain valuable professional experience in their field.

DUTIES:

  • library research

  • office support and organization

  • assist with writing reports and presentations

  • assist with data entry and analysis

  • help with the development of the corporate web site

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • background in psychology or another field relating to health

  • must have a strong academic background: cumulative grade point average of A or higher; at least one university statistics course

  • proven teamwork skills

  • ability to work in a fast-paced, yet casual work atmosphere

  • basic proficiency with computers (and ability to quickly learn new programmes) e.g. Microsoft
    Office (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Project, Publisher, Frontpage), WordPerfect 9, SPSS 10, Endnote 3.

3. Junior Marketing Assistant

This volunteer position would be ideal for a business / commerce undergraduate who is interested in gaining professional experience in health care marketing, pharma marketing and science-based consulting.

DUTIES:

  • provide support and expertise in sales and marketing

  • office support and organization

  • market research

  • assist with writing reports and presentations

  • assist with data entry and analysishelp with the ongoing development and updating of the corporate web site and

  • other internet-based initiatives

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • background in business, commerce, marketing or a related field

  • interest in health care

  • must have a strong academic background (cumulative grade point average of A or higher) and / or a demonstrated creativity in business

  • proven teamwork skills

  • ability to work in a fast-paced, yet casual work atmosphere

  • basic proficiency with computers (and ability to quickly learn new programmes) e.g. Microsoft
    Office (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Project, Publisher, Frontpage), WordPerfect 9, and webpage creation software.
